The Toyota Supra
The Toyota Supra is a legendary sports car, renowned for its performance, handling, and timeless design. First launched in 1978, the Supra has evolved through several generations, with the A80 (1993-2002) being the most iconic, known for its 2JZ-GTE twin-turbo engine, amongst other, less desirable variants.
The Mk4 (A80) Supra in all it’s glory!
The current Mk5 (A90) Supra, introduced in 2019, continues the legacy with a 3.0L turbocharged inline-six engine, delivering 335 horsepower and a thrilling driving experience. Despite sharing a lot of components with the BMW Z4, the A90 Supra remains true to its roots, offering sharp handling and an exciting, balanced drive.
The Supra’s influence goes beyond the track, becoming a cultural icon, especially after its role in Fast & Furious. Whether as a tuner’s dream or a track-ready machine, the Supra continues to be a symbol of speed, performance, and passion.
Most petrolheads that want a Mk4 Supra want it in only one specification - twin turbo (GTE) engine, manual transmission - for good reason. This combination of engine and gearbox opens up the petrolhead to a world never before seen of modifications.
The engine has been transplanted into cars you would never expect before, and because of how strong they made it, it’s not uncommon to find a 2JZ car running north of 1000hp.
The gearbox is used in any number of applications - mostly for use in cars with engine swaps that need an extraordinarily strong box.
The car culture in Japan is unbelievable. There are supermarkets solely responsible for supplying you with the best possible parts to modify your car, and because of this, cars like the Supra, Skyline and many, many others have become a staple to anyone that considers themselves to be a petrolhead.
Brand new, an A80 Supra would have set you back up to £35,000.
Now? You’re looking north of £50,000 for a nice, tidy, manual twin turbo (GTE) car. That amount of money buys you a REALLY nice A90!
Gold star for you if you guessed that this was coming 👀⭐️
