The Lamborghini Murcielago

Today, I thought we’d travel back a couple of generations, to the first Lambo that struck my heart as a young petrolhead; the Murcielago.

The LP670-4 Superveloce. The Daddy of every Murcielago.

The Murci is the V12-powered beast that reigned from 2001 to 2010. This was the car that marked Lamborghini’s transition into the modern era under Audi ownership, blending Italian flair with German engineering precision.

Behind your head? A monstrous 6.2L V12, producing 572 hp in early models, later upgraded to a 6.5L V12 with up to 661 hp in the LP640 version. With a top speed of over 200 mph and a 0-60 time of just 3.4 seconds, the Murcielago was—and still is—a supercar icon.

But it wasn’t just about straight-line speed. The Murciélago came with all-wheel drive, keeping all that power in check, and its low, wide stance made it a corner-carving machine. Let’s not forget the scissor doors—an unmistakable Lamborghini trademark.

By the time the Murcielago bowed out in 2010, it had paved the way for the Aventador and now the swivel-eyed, 1000hp Revuelto, but it remains one of the most iconic Lamborghinis ever made. What’s your take—true classic or overshadowed by newer models? Let me know!

Back in 2001, a Murcielago would have set you back around £175,000, with prices rising to £220,000 for an LP640 when they came out in 2006, all the way up to an eye watering £270,000 for an LP670-4 SV!

Now? Prices range massively, with a pre-LP Murci grabbing prices of £150,000 and up, with the SV fetching over £500,000 - for reference, that is two arms, one leg and a kidney.

You’ll already know if you got today’s guess right - gold star if you did, but can you get tomorrow’s?

So, what do you think tomorrow's COTD will be? ⭐️
