The Vauxhall VXR8
I know what you’re thinking. If you haven’t heard of the VXR8, the first thing you see is… Vauxhall… and that’s not good, but once you delve even one millimetre deeper, you’ll realise that this is no ordinary Vauxhall…
If you’ve ever dreamed of muscle car power with a dash of British flair, the Vauxhall VXR8 is the car that ticks all the boxes. Born out of a partnership between Vauxhall and Australian brand Holden, the VXR8 brought thunderous V8 performance to UK roads—proving that you didn’t need to cross the Atlantic for an old-school muscle car experience.
At its heart, the VXR8 packed a 6.0L LS2 V8, later upgraded to a 6.2L LS3 V8, borrowed straight from the Chevrolet Corvette.
With 425-431 hp (depending on the version) and a 0-60 mph time of around 4.9 seconds, the VXR8 was all about delivering raw, unfiltered power. It had the kind of torque (550Nm) that could make your morning commute feel like a track day.
What made it even more exciting was the rear-wheel-drive setup, a proper manual gearbox, and a limited-slip differential, making it a real driver’s car. Sure, it was big and brash, but that was part of its charm—it was a bruiser, not a scalpel.
Back in 2007, you would have paid a tickle under £35,000 for one of these bad boy V8s. Now? £18,000+ for a nice one. That’s if you can find a nice one for sale.
I think the VXR8 is an unbelievable car, and at some point, I’m going to drive one.
If you have anything to say about the VXR8, or anything else for that matter, you know where the ‘reply’ button is 😘
Did you guess today’s car right? Hopefully you’ll be collecting your gold star…⭐️
